Offenders released from custody are sometimes identified by police as being high risk to the community. In these situations, the Police Services Act and its regulations allow the Chief of Police to notify the public when they feel there is a risk to a member or group in the community.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), Chief of Police, and our High-Risk Offender Management Unit do not have any active Community Notifications at this time.
How Offender Management Works
The HRPS High-Risk Offender Management Unit works with Halton Probation and Parole and the Halton Crown Attorney's Office to identify offenders who pose a risk to members of our community.
Special provisions in the Criminal Code of Canada allow the unit to monitor and investigate these individuals to reduce the safety risk to the community.
Please see the Canadian Centre for Child Protection - Safety Strategies for Parents and Communities brochure for more information.
