The quick actions of the Halton Regional Police Service Marine Unit assist in saving a drowning victim at Burlington Beach.

On August 5, 2024, at 4:40 pm, members of the HRPS Marine Unit were patrolling the area of Burlington Beach when officers observed an unoccupied inflatable tube and an adult male struggling in the water a few meters away. Rapidly making their way towards the location officers located the male submerged two feet below the waterline and without vital signs. With the assistance of a passing boater the male was brought on board where officers began life saving measures.

Continuing life saving measures officers made their way towards Spencer Smith Park where they were able to coordinate the rescue effort and transfer of the patient to Fire and EMS, with the male then transported to hospital for further medical attention. Through the collaborative life-saving efforts of HRPS marine officers, the assisting boater, and Halton emergency services personnel the male regained consciousness and is expected to recover.

Investigation at the scene determined the male had initially been floating on an inflatable tube before drifting out from shore and losing contact with the tube due to waves and weather conditions.
