On March 28, 2024, the Halton Police Board approved the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan that will help guide the Halton Regional Police Service’s priorities over the next four years.

 The Strategic Plan was developed in collaboration with the Halton Regional Police Service and has been driven by the Halton community. This plan is results-based and community focused. This approach reflects the Board and Service’s community-first perspective and places an emphasis on community safety outcomes.

 Guided by this plan, the HRPS is ready to serve the community with the collective vision: To be a world-class leader in community safety, equitable service, and policing excellence. 

 The plan includes five measurable strategic priorities: 

  • Achievement of the highest weighted clearance rate among comparator police services;
  • Achievement of 80% or better community satisfaction with the HRPS;
  • Improved HRPS member wellness, job satisfaction, and engagement;
  • Reduced per capita property crime rate, including, through partnerships and collaboration, a 50% reduction in auto theft; and
  • Increased enforcement and intervention in the following community-responsive policing priorities: Intimate Partner Violence, Hate Crime, Human Trafficking, Child Exploitation, Guns & Gangs/Firearms, and Road Safety.

For the first time, the plan's formation was led by the Board, featuring a robust framework for measurable outcomes, ensuring that our objectives are clear and our progress quantifiable. Developed with exhaustive public input, including a comprehensive opinion survey and focus groups with key stakeholders, this plan truly reflects the aspirations and concerns of the Halton community. We are committed to fostering a safer, more connected Halton, where every voice has been heard and public trust in our police services is stronger than ever,” said Chair of the Halton Police Board, Jeff Knoll.

 “We are proud to have worked with the Police Services Board, members of the public, and our valued partners to develop a blueprint for policing in Halton that truly reflects the community safety and well-being priorities of those we serve,” said Stephen Tanner, Chief of Police. “To accomplish this, and over the next four years, our Service will devote significant resources to achieving the goals laid out in this Plan, including a commitment to One Team - People First. This new internal mission statement not only reflects the priority of external stakeholders and citizens in all we do, but the promise we have made to our more than 1,100 members to always protect and advocate for their health and wellness.”
