An 18-year member of the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has been arrested and charged with fraud following a lengthy investigation undertaken by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
In February 2023, an investigation was commenced by the OPP’s Anti-Rackets Branch following multiple complaints of fraud in relation to an investment scheme.
It is the HRPS’ understanding that the criminal investigation has concluded.
HRPS Sergeant Jon Williams has been charged with one count of Fraud Over $5,000 in addition to two other individuals with no connection to the police service.
As per the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA), Williams is suspended from duty with pay.
The HRPS thanks the OPP for leading this investigation and for ensuring transparency and fairness to all involved throughout.
This matter is currently before the courts. As such, any further questions pertaining to the investigation should be directed to the OPP.
