The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) – Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit has identified and arrested a male suspect responsible for groping a teenager in Milton.

On Friday May 31, 2024, at approximately 3:40 pm., a male suspect was walking along a pathway near Child’s Drive and Ledwith Drive in Milton when he approached a 15-year-old female walking her dog. The male suspect engaged the female in conversation before grabbing and forcefully kissing her multiple times on the cheek without her consent. See original release here.

As a result of the investigation, on June 23, 2024, Sleim Basta (70), of Milton was identified and charged with the following:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Interference
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching

Basta has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police believe there may be additional victims and a photograph of the accused has been attached to this media release.

Investigators are asking anyone with information, or anyone who has been victimized by the accused to contact the HRPS Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970.

Sexual assault is any touching of another person without their consent where the touching is of a sexual nature, or where the sexual integrity of the victim is violated.  A sexual assault can range from unwanted touching to sexual assault involving penetration.

There is no statute of limitation when it comes to reporting a sexual assault.  This means that no matter how long ago the sexual assault happened, you can still report it to police for investigation.
