The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has launched a new project, dubbed Project #Unplated, with the goal of identifying and charging unplated motorcycles and dangerous drivers.

Throughout the summer, photos of unplated motorcycles seen driving throughout the region of Halton will be posted to HRPS social media accounts using “#Unplated” in hopes that members of the public will help identify these motorists. The photos released will be from footage captured by the in-car camera system present in HRPS cruisers.

Year to date, there have been nearly 60 incidents of vehicles failing to stop for police in Halton. A large percentage of these incidents involves motorcycles, a number that is expected to increase with the warm summer weather.

The motorcycles that fail to stop for the police are often unplated and used in racing, stunt driving and dangerous driving occurrences.

Motorcyclists are vulnerable road users and over-represented in collision fatalities. The HRPS hopes that this increased enforcement through Project #Unplated will help save lives and increase the safety of our roads for all users. Project #Unplated will run until the end of September 2024.

The HRPS remains committed to road safety through prevention, education and enforcement initiatives.

Tips concerning unplated motorcycles and vehicles can be:

-          Reported directly to an officer at the HRPS at 905 825 4777 ext. 2391;

-          Submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca; or

-          Submitted via the Road Watch online form available on the HRPS website here:  https://www.haltonpolice.ca/en/services-and-reporting/report-a-traffic-concern.aspx

As always, police will also be accepting tips and information about possible dangerous drivers seen by members of the public.

Members of the public can follow Halton Police on X (Twitter), Facebook and Instagram to watch for #Unplated posts.
