Twice yearly, local youth are selected to participate in the Halton Regional Police Service's (HRPS) 11-week Police Ethnic and Cultural Education (PEACE) Youth Leadership Program.

PEACE students work closely with members of the HRPS to improve their cultural proficiency, communication and leadership skills.

PEACE Program Eligibility

To be considered for the HRPS’ PEACE Youth Leadership Program, candidates must:

  • Be a resident of Halton region.
  • Be between the ages of 14 and 17 years, attending Grades 9 to 12 in good standing.
  • Have an interest in policing and diversity.
  • Not have any criminal charges pending before the court.
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Benefit from this developmental opportunity regarding leadership responsibility.
  • Successfully complete the recruitment / background check process.
  • Agree to a mentoring relationship with our fellow officers and/or civilian members.
  • Be available to attend the entire full 11-week unpaid volunteer program.
  • Not have previously participated in the PEACE Youth Leadership Program.

PEACE Program Areas of Focus

PEACE Youth Leadership Program participants will engage in several activities involving the following areas:

  • A “Day in the Life of a Police Officer”.
  • Hands-on training with our Training Bureau.
  • Learning investigative skills.
  • Working as a team to investigate a real police occurrence.
  • Learning about our Victim Services and Wellness units.
  • Hands-on demonstrations and an inside look at HRPS’ specialized units, including Tactical, K9, Crisis Negotiators, Forensic Identification­­ and more!
